Governor’s coastal walk – 17 Dec.

UPDATE: Hiking will be followed by a served fish and seafood meze lunch (no meat), at a taverna in Governor’s beach. Kindly clarify if you will be joining us for lunch, or not, when registering. Participants registering for lunch will receive further info via e-mail.

Our excursion of Saturday 17 December 2022 takes us to Governor’s, along the rocky coast towards St. George of Alamanos village, west of Governor’s beach.

The hike is linear. The length of the walk is eleven kilometers, duration about three hours of hiking, with a degree of difficulty 1 (easy). We hike at sea level, at an altitude between 3 to 10 meters, and small ups and downs. This destination is a good start for beginners in hiking. During the walk you can breathe directly the sea iodine, an essential mineral for our health that is something we can’t find any more in our nutrition nor in the mountains. The sea air will further give us a positive feeling and a psychological boost. One attraction we will meet on the way is a solar energy research plant, in the middle of the walk. The hike starts at 11:00 am. Xenophon is leading the hike, which will go ahead even in light rain; if you need to, call 97613720.

Depending on the government restrictions on the day, we shall follow the walk with a served lunch. Kindly visit this page in the week prior to the activity for updated news. In the case of lunch, this will be a fish and seafood lunch and will take place at a fish restaurant on the same coast, a couple of minutes’ drive from where we have parked. To provide you with maximum safety vis-à-vis covid-19, and in order to have maximum traceability, we require every participant to register, irrespective of your participation at lunch or not. To facilitate arrangements, for your better service, you are required to e-mail Xenophon by end Thursday, indicating whether you will be joining us for lunch or not.

You have the choice of meeting the group at the hike start, or meet at the designated meeting point in Nicosia. In either case, you need to carry copy of this set of instructions. Meeting in Nicosia offers two important advantages: we drive in full cars, leaving some cars behind; thus, we save in fuel and enjoy the trip in good company. The meeting point in Nicosia is the Handicrafts Centre (Kentro Heirotechnias) on Leoforos Athalassas (Athalassa Avenue), which offers ample parking space. The car trip starts at 10:00 am. Please ensure you observe start times, for the benefit of the group.
