An Ithaca trail, by ancient god

Not for war, or fame’s delight

But Vasilopita, shining bright

Ithaca’s trail, a winding thread

Past olive groves, where dreams are spread

Each stone a story, whispered low

The air is sweet with baking spice

A promise warm, a taste so nice

Vasilopita, round and grand

A lucky coin to be held in hand

Just 5 days before Christmas a lovely company of Strollers hiked on Kourtellorotsos under optimal conditions and shared cheerful thoughts about dolls of all kinds. We did it: we decorated a living tree/bush with Christmas eco-friendly decoration, while hiking at Governor’s coast on 14 December. A large company of Strollers, made of frequent Strollers, not-so-frequent, and newcomers enjoyed the walk, the sea landscape, contributed to decorating, and were rewarded with the seafood lunch. A large, brave gathering of Strollers at Selladi and Pezounokremos on 6 December, defied the rain and derived much joy, as evidenced by a climb up a terrace to a vineyard, and spontaneous singing at the restaurant. In a country struck by continuous heat waves for 4 months over June – September, and a severe drop in rainfall since, it would feel ungrateful to utter a moan about the rain that accompanied our hike at Spilia on 30 Nov. The club took on the challenge of a difficult hike near Kykkos on 23 November. Assisted by the shade, everybody managed their length in good spirit, evident around the rewarding lunch table.
