There was beauty all around at Gerakies and Moutoullas on 4 April. In the attitude of all participants, in the smiling face of Eleana, on her first hike, an inspiration for all, and in the landscape. It was a dry day, and all participants enjoyed the hike and the feast of flowers in the fields above Kapedes on 28 March, as well as the flow of water, at last, in the streams. The presence of clouds throughout helped Strollers maintain our high energy, resulting in the conclusion of a long, 14 km hike through fields of green. The level of water at Lefkara dam and lake on 21 Feb. was disappointing; a consequence of yet another year of poor rainfall. Notwithstanding that, a large gathering of Strollers, regulars, persons returning and newcomers had a thoroughly pleasant day, both hiking and dining. We bid goodbye to Anna, returning to Germany. An Ithaca trail, by ancient god

Not for war, or fame’s delight

But Vasilopita, shining bright

Ithaca’s trail, a winding thread

Past olive groves, where dreams are spread

Each stone a story, whispered low

Of journeys past and winds that blow

The air is sweet with baking spice

A promise warm, a taste so nice

Vasilopita, round and grand

A lucky coin to be held in hand

Surely not Xenophon’s winning coin

Plucked mysteriously from his groin

The coin is in the cake, you see

Slice and share, with joy and glee.
