The unprecedented levels of sand dust, covering the entire island since 7 Sept. are forecast to prevail throughout this week. Hence, we are raising this alert. In the event of high levels of dust on Saturday 12 September, the European Week of Sport hike on Pedieos will not go ahead.
You are advised to visit this website again on Saturday afternoon. In case of cancellation, there will be a new message posted. If the event goes ahead as planned, there will be no further messages.

There was a new record attendance for the Cyprus Strollers on Sunday 8 March. We walked a circular trail from Konnos bay to Cape Greco and then a linear trail to the cave of Cyclop. The weather was sunny, the coastline inviting, our spirits cheerful all along and the picnic invigorating. Compliments to Amanda and Christos for the photos.
A large group of Strollers, from 5 different nationalities, walked in Athalassa park on Sunday 25 January, in splendid weather conditions, enjoying the natural pond, the birds and the anemones in bloom. Compliments to Andriani for the photos.
All Strollers are invited to a spectacular hike along the Oroklini coastline, in Larnaca, on Sunday 11 January. Read and print the full instructions here https://cyprus-strollers.org/activities-description/larnaca-oroklini-dhekelia-coastline-walk-saturday-31-jan/. Note that the 11 January walk will follow the exact instructions and plan as posted for the 31 January excursion. Here is a summary: “The entire walk is along the coastline. The path is linear, just over 2 hours long and is on totally flat ground. We set off at Oroklini, reach Dhekelia and then walk back along the same path. We shall walk on a variety of surfaces, including sand, pebbles, wood, cement and soil. The walkstarts at 11:15 am. The car trip in Nicosia starts at 10:15 am. Xenophon is leading this walk, which will go ahead even in light rain. You are strongly advised to carry a wind jacket. After the walk we shall sit down at one of the seafood tavernas on the sea front, a few minutes away from the walk finish, for a rewarding meal.” Please confirm your participation.
The weather forecast for Oroklini is dry, with a mixture of cloudy and sunny.
The Troodos hike, scheduled for 11 Jan. is postponed, because even though the forecast for Sunday is ‘sunny, no rain, no snowfall’, access roads to Troodos continue to be dangerous, requiring snow chains and the path is snow covered.
The Cyprus Strollers held their final walk of 2014 in a festive spirit, strolling around Nicosia Within the Walls on 20 December and stopping at many places of cultural interest. A warm thank you to each Stroller and best wishes for the Christmas holidays.
On Sunday 14 December 2014, just one day after the heavy rainfall on Larnaca, the Cyprus Strollers walked around the Salt Lake; the Kamares start was flooded, and so we drove to an adjacent starting point; and what a contrast, there was no rain at all over the entire stroll; the outing ended with a meal of fresh fish on the Meneou sea front. Compliments to Anastasia for her early morning scouting of the area for damages. Compliments also to Marla for the photos.
A spirited large group walked along the small, but picturesque Pedieos river gorge, up to Mahairas monastery, on 23 November 2014, enjoying the exercise, the scenery, the mellow weather, the visit to the monastery and a picnic lunch.
On the 25th anniversary from the demolishing of the Berlin Wall, the Cyprus Strollers walked in the only remaining divided capital city in Europe, with a wish that we may see the end of Nicosia’s division too. The day was so bright, and the Pedieos river banks trail enjoyable, with plenty of shade from the trees and some water flowing in the river, following the recent rainfalls.
