International Mountain Day Celebration – Petra Romiou Hike 11 Dec.

The Cyprus Strollers celebrated the 11 December International Mountain Day with an antithesis, a hike along the coast, in one of the prettiest places on earth: Petra tou Romiou, reputed as the birthplace of goddess Aphrodite. Nature was on our side, with temperature at 19 degrees, sunshine and just a slight breeze. Apart from the large turnout of Strollers, the club had a record turnout of 7 dogs, all carried by brave women members! The outing climaxed with a picnic, also godsent, considering that you don’t find many places in Europe where you can picnic outdoors in mid-December. Compliments to Koula, Marios and Zhinous for the photos. Join us on 17 December on a visit of all 11 bastions of Nicosia https://cyprus-strollers.org/activities-description/nicosia-all-11-bastions-walls-walk-sat-17-dec/

Exciting Experience – Agios Tychonas Coast 3 Dec.

The stroll of Saturday 3 December along the coast of Agios Tychonas in Limassol, offered participants an exciting experience in many ways; perfect weather conditions with temperature at 19 degrees, sunshine and no wind; the sea on one side and many trees, particularly eucalyptus and palms on the other side; and a rewarding fresh fish meal for the finale. Compliments to Koula for arranging and leading this outing and to Alex for the photos. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and The Cyprus Strollers – Asinou Hike 27 Nov.

The hike of Sunday 27 November from Asinou to Agios Theodoros was like no other; the large group of Strollers, which included several newcomers, was flanked along the trail by a large group of boy scouts and girl scouts, on their weekend excursion in the countryside. The sight of young people in active life was very rewarding, particularly when one considers the avalanche of temptations youth is exposed to, which lure many to stay rooted in front of a computer game screen for leisure. Compliments to Zhinous, Dina, Mary and Kevin for sending photos and to Laurent for leading this outing. Water of Hope – Pedieos Gorge Hike 5 Nov.

Living through a period of protracted drought, there was a sigh of relief on Saturday 5 November among all Strollers who saw and also heard the sound of water, little as it was, as we hiked along the gorge of Pedieos river. There were plenty of other excitements, turning this long hike into a much liked outing. Compliments to George for leading and to Marios, Dina and Koula for sending their photos. To Life – Persephone hike 30 Oct.

A very large group of Strollers hiked the Persephone trail on Troodos, in sunny weather, on Sunday 30 October, undeterred by the Greek myth, as told by Homer, the great poet: about Persephone, daughter of Zeus and Demetra, goddess of agriculture, who was captured by Hades, ruler of the dead; Demetra fell into despair and the world entered a phase of bad crops and yields; disaster from the fields made Zeus intervene; Zeus and Hades negotiated a deal, whereby Persephone was allowed to spend 6 months on earth, these are the months of fertility, and then another 6 months in the world down below, these being autumn and winter, the seasons of poor land production. The Strollers lunch that followed the hike was a cheerful experience. Compliments to Laurent for leading this excursion and to Andrea, Koula, Alex, Marios and Ramzi for sharing their photos. Probably the Most Youthful Hiking Club – Madari Hike 22 Oct.

The Cyprus Strollers were brimming with freshness and youthfulness once more, on the hike of Saturday 22 October on Madari, from Selladi to Doxa si o Theos and back. Not only did we feature probably the youngest Walk leader among all hiking clubs, we also had two young boys setting the pace, in front. These elements, alongside the captivating forest scenery, the long views, and the good weather conditions created a memorable experience. Furthermore, we traced the first cyclamens of the season and spotted a tree trunk undergoing peeling. The assortment of dishes at Fountoukia taverna at the end was the perfect reward every Stroller deserved. Compliments to Christos for leading, and to Lowell and Teresa for sharing their photos. Join us on 30 Oct. on the Persephone trail.
