Tranquilizing Waters of Clarios – 9 Feb.

The stroll of Saturday 9 February offered lasting impressions to participants; the visit and expert guide description of the interiors of the 16 c. Podithou church and Archangelos church in Galata; footpaths with overgrown vegetation, thanks to the abundant rainfalls; the walk on the cobbled roads of Old Kakopetria; the waters of Clarios river which, even though running forcefully, had such a tranquilizing effect on us all. Compliments to Nana, Thalis and Stathis for sending photos. Join us on 17 Feb. at Xyliatos https://cyprus-strollers.org/activities-description/xyliatos-stavros-agiasmati-17-feb/

Admirable Flow of Pedieos – 3 Feb.

Following the unusually heavy rains of the past couple of months, the large group of Strollers along the gorge of Pedieos on Sunday 3 February marveled at the river flow, and the green landscape, which included flowering lavenders. Compliments to George for leading the outing and to Nana, Nicos, Stathis and Nicoletta for the photos. Join us on 9 Feb, at Galata https://cyprus-strollers.org/activities-description/galata-kakopetria-9-feb/

The Mystique of Teisia – 27 Jan.

Teisia, the destination of the outing of Sunday 27 January, has such a mystique, that no cold, no chilly wind, could keep a very large group of Strollers away from this hike. The party was cheerful and included kids and dogs and a few dozens of newcomers. The scenery provided ample compensation, with the densest population of golden oaks on the island, albeit infested with lichens; and the erect constructions of frozen magma. Compliments to Gunnar for leading this excursion and to Nicoletta, Maria, Nana and Stathis for their photos. Especial compliments also to every participant in the lunch that followed for your patience in getting seated in the crowded Fountoukia taverna; the quality of the meal was a deserved reward! Join us on 3 Feb. at Pedieos gorge https://cyprus-strollers.org/activities-description/pedieos-gorge-mahairas-monastery-3-feb/

Attractive Adelphi – 19 Jan.

Strollers of all age groups, from a variety of backgrounds, incl. newcomers, hiked on the attractive Adelphi forest on Saturday 19 January as one cheerful, homogeneous party. The weather was optimal, the fields around covered in green, streams flowed after the heavy rains of this month, conversations were stimulating, and the meal at our favourite Forviotissa taverna at Asinou superb. All this, under the energetic baton of George, our walk maestro. Compliments to Christos, Maria and Stathis for the photos. Join us on 27 Jan. on Madari https://cyprus-strollers.org/activities-description/madari-teisia-27-jan/

Generosity in Abundance – 12 Jan. 2019

Generosity was displayed in so many ways on this first outing of the club’s 10th season of excursions into the Cyprus countryside. Saturday 12 January offered not one, but two hikes near Lythrodontas; there was not a drop of rain, in a welcome respite from the heavy rainfall of these days; participating Strollers had an overflow of good humour, and extended a warm welcome to the new members; among us Luke was so generous in collecting a bagful of cartridges left behind by hunters; the walk leader recited an ancient Irish blessing for the new year to all; the rich meal at Steki Marinos that followed was highly enjoyed; our host, Marinos, baked the tastiest vasilopita we can remember; and to cap it all, there were not one, but two tokens, which translated to two gifts, for Gunnar and young George, the lucky winners, thanks to the generosity of Galatia, who offered the second gift. Compliments to Christos and Stathis for the photos. Join us on 19 Jan. at Asinou https://cyprus-strollers.org/activities-description/adelphi-asinou-agios-theodoros-19-jan/

Sweet Sentiments Around the Salt Lake – 16 Dec.

Under optimal weather conditions – no wind, no rain, sufficient clouds, ambient temperature – a large group of Strollers executed the walk around Larnaca Salt Lake on Sunday 16 December. Once again, the club welcomed new members. The delights included the flamingoes, which some of us saw as close as possible, climbing on the watch tower; fields of sprouting wheat; the renovated 18c. aqueduct; visit to the mosque, whose story dates to the 7c. No wonder, the setting left participants with many sweet impressions. Compliments to Nana, Maria and Stathis for their photos. Join us on 22 Dec. for the final hike of 2018 https://cyprus-strollers.org/activities-description/pipis-hills-22-dec/

Lovable Limassol – 8 Dec.

It is impossible for a living soul not to fall in love with Limassol, the way Koula prepared and led the club’s stroll around the sea front of Agios Tychonas and the archaeological site of Amathous and a 5th c. chapel of St. Barbara. The weather was favourable, the spirits opened and the lunch that closed the day an experience that will linger in memory for a long time! Compliments to Marina, Margarita, Christos and Dimitris for sending photos. Join us on 16 Dec to admire the flamingos https://cyprus-strollers.org/activities-description/larnaca-salt-lake-16-dec/
